CARRIE: SEEN 121

Intro to Mike South

Quick Background
- Most of my paid career has been a documentary filmmaker for non-profits.
- I’ve recently won awards for my fine art photography, and feel my aesthetic and feel of my work is well developed, but I feel subjects and themes need to be more personal moving forward.
- I am very passionate about pushing XR as a fine art photography / film medium.
- More info on my ABOUT, XR and PROJECT pages
SEEN Artist Workbook: My Key Priorities.
I need to:
1. Engage with the art industry (become more know to artists, curators, collectors, agents)
2. Create work that is more vulnerable and from the heart (creating more connection)
3. Collab with the tech industry (get paid for innovating in the XR space)
What I want to achieve in 2026
1. Have a career game plan I trust (More directed interaction within the art industry, Know that new work has potential value for exhibition and collection)
2. Have a Clear artistic vision - committed to XR medium - clearly communicating my own world view with fine art, XR tech.
3. Complete current project + marketing, BTS, enter awards in moving image, XR categories
Main topics I’d like to discuss (in order of priority)

1. Positioning career as an XR artist
- Orgs / agencies / museums / galleries that are most interested in digital art and emerging tech
- How my work could be collected (I know you mostly talk about paintings and print photography mediums)
- Any specific people you think I should DEFINITELY be speaking with?

- Though currently in pre-production - the concept trailers are close to the feeling of the final output.
- The output would be short films, captured using XR camera technology, edited and sound scored by me. Accompanying still images (could be printed if appropriate).
- BTS videos that show people the process I use to create the work
- (Possibly) Live Immersive experiences, using XR headsets. People can go into my ‘world’ - viewing and interacting with the 3D models I create.

3. Collabs with tech companies
- Best practices for approaching collabs as an artist.

4. WEBSITE Feedback
- Looking for things that conflict or confuse (this could be past work, Artist statement or CV). I’m looking to focus
- What key elects are missing from my portfolio? What is distracting / superflous?
- What's working well in current body of work. Areas where there might be room to push further.
